In
December 2004 several of the Sudanese members of Benson Baptist
approached Pastor Paul asking if he would go to Nasir in South Sudan.
They wanted him to meet with their family and friends and also to begin
the process of establishing a church. There had been no missionary work
in that region since the start of their civil war. At first, the number
of obstacles to such a trip seemed insurmountable. Then on January 9
2005, a peace accord was signed between the government of Sudan in
Khartoum and the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement, bringing an end
to the 21 years of warfare that ravaged the region.
Throughout
the year, all of the barriers that made this trip seem impossible
melted away. So on July 3, 2006 Pastor Paul, Jon Mayo, Daniel Gatkuoth
and Yat Kueth left Omaha for Nasir.
