I believe that local churches are flawed, imperfect organizations filled with flawed, imperfect people. However, I also believe they are the last, best hope for chance in the world. At its best, the church has fed the hungry, healed the sick, befriended the friendless, shared wholeness in a badly fragmented age, and witnessed to God's Kingdom breaking into the world. I want to spend my life helping the church to be everything God intends for it.
Little Known Fact:
I once impersonated Justin Timberlake for a church camp talent show. Yes, it's part of my history. No, I'm not proud of it.
I love hanging out with my family! We like to watch movies, visit the zoo, and have spontaneous dance parties in our basement. I love learning, so I read a lot. Science fiction, history, theology, psychology, philosophy; I like it all! I also love sports. I like to watch football and baseball and over the past few years I've spent a lot of time obstacle course racing and playing rugby.
Favorite Bible Verse:
Asking for my favorite Bible verse is like asking about my favorite surgery! God's word is always working on me and leading me to know and follow God better.
One passage that has continued to do do that work in me is Philippians 2:5-8: "Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and become obedient to the point of the death on a cross."
Even God voluntarily accepted humiliation and death. He told us that this should be our model to follow Him. That's brutal! I'm still working that out in my life, and I suspect I will for a long time to come. See what I mean about surgery?
